You might not lose any weight, but at least you won’t be all stressed out about it.

We have a hard time with this. So many things that tempt us. And it’s not just our waistlines. It’s every aspect. We struggle with discipline because we are not effective at dealing with temptation.

Three Keys toward Mastering Temptation

Key Number 1, Constantly Expose the Lie

Every sin is based on a lie.  At Rick Warren’s conference he told of a time he was invited to a bible study by the guys that produced Shrek. They asked him, “How can we make films that are more Christian friendly without being preachy?” He said, “you don’t have to preach, just expose the lie.” Behind every sin there is a lie. Don’t show the glamour of the “affair” show the broken home. Don’t show the thrill of winning at Vegas, show the person trying to make his house note after he blew it at the crap table.

Key Number 2, Develop a strategy of aversion

Proverbs 4:23-27

I like the translation in the Living Bible.

23 Above all else, guard your affections. For they influence everything else in your life.. 26 Watch your step. Stick to the path and be safe. 27 Don’t sidetrack; pull back your foot from danger.

Be careful of the influences you allow close to you, they will influence every decision.

Key Number 3, Develop a “Flight Plan”

1 Corinthians 10:13 God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.

When you find yourself in a situation, where temptation is occurring, you need to look for the escape route and get out of it.  God is faithful to provide a way out for us.
